This title comes from a wonderful old childrens chorus. “Be careful little tongue what you say, for the Father up above is looking down with Love, so be careful little tongue what you say.”
Very good advice to both children and adults who want to please the Lord. However, there are many ways to misuse the tongue. There is flattery, there is lying, there is pretense, much more.
There is alse scheming against others and there are smooth sayings. King David put it this way, “The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart; His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. Destroy their schemes O Lord, confuse their tongues, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.” Psalm 55
The song goes on to say, “Be careful little ears what you hear.” “For the Father up above is looking down in Love, So be careful little ears what you hear.” Sometimes the Truth sounds quite harsh and the lies are smooth as butter. Jesus said we would know true shepherds by their fruit, not by their righteous works or their powers of persuasion. Sometimes their righteous works are simply a mask to hide the other rotten fruit. Oh! Be Careful! Be wise! Be cautious! Look all around you!
Listen carefully and don’t fall for persuasive, convincing words designed to influence your thoughts to draw you away from your family ,and to someone elses ideology even if it sounds deeply spiritual, even if it sounds true. “Please take heed.” Listen well. The enemy knows the Bible better than any of us. He throws truth out like a predator throws out candy to ensnare his victims.
