The Lord is so good! All the time! Yesterday I went to Mechanic Falls to be a companion to a woman I had never met. Her name is Lula. She is 88 years old and in great health. She has a little bit of short-term memory loss. She drives a car and walks well. I had an idea she would be a believer but didn’t know for sure.
At lunch time we went to a little truck-stop type of restaurant. It was busy there as it was exactly 12 noon. She knew everyone there , put her arm around some and said, “hello.” When we got ready to eat our lobster rolls I noticed she didn’t pick up her fork or make any move to eat. So I asked, ” Do you pray before you eat? I was just wondering and didn’t want to begin eating if you wanted to pray.” She said , “I’d love to pray, will you pray for us. “ I prayed then she prayed. I noticed she had tears in her eyes.
I thank the Lord for the wonderful day we had together. We went to her little cottage on a small pond in Oxford, Maine. It was rustic with an old fashioned cook-stove in the kitchen, no running water and only electricity. It was so refreshing to be with someone who was real. She loved the Lord and believed ,but there wasn’t an ounce of pretense. She lost her husband a year ago after many years of marriage, and it reminded me how few days we have on this earth, and we never know what tomorrow will bring.
When I was ready to leave, we went to another little place for a cup of chicken soup. Lula immediately bowed her head and prayed for us. Today I get to be with her again! Thank You Lord, My cup runneth over!
Today’s Daily Devotional by Ardith Keef is entitled, “The Cup Tipped Over” but today all I can say is that MY CUP RUNNETH OVER! The Lord has been so good to me and my family. In the midst of horrible abuse by those who pretended to be friends, but have become foes, and whom I continue to love deeply, He has set a bountiful table before us, and has poured into my cup such Love and Mercy, Compassion and courage to face every day, that sometimes it is overwhelming!
So today this is my verse. “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies, thou hast annointed my head with oil, MY CUP RUNNETH OVER!” Psalm 23:5
